AUBCC Blog: The Work Behind the Scenes That Makes Every Event Possible
Picture what makes a convention center run. You're probably thinking of the stage lighting up for a keynote, the ballroom set for a gala, the exhibit hall filled with vendor booths. What you might not think about is everything that happens before, during, and after those moments to make them possible. That's the work of our facilities, housekeeping, and maintenance teams. In September, we celebrate International Housekeepers Week (September 13–19, 2026), making this the perfect time to shine a light on all their vital work.
There's a simple truth about facilities and housekeeping work: it's only noticeable when it doesn't happen. A spotless lobby, a restroom that's always stocked, a meeting room that's reset and ready before the next group even walks in, none of that happens by accident. It happens because a team is constantly working behind the scenes, long before an event starts and long after it has ended.
Our maintenance team keeps this building running like a small city of its own. While most people are focused on the event in front of them, our team is thinking several steps ahead by making sure HVAC systems keep a packed hall comfortable, electrical and AV infrastructure stand ready for any event needs, and hundreds of small details never become big problems. A squeaky door, a flickering light, a loose fixture: these get caught and corrected before anyone else even notices them. It is all a consistent effort to make every even go off without a hitch.
Our facilities, housekeeping, and maintenance teams are the heart of this building. They are the foundation that every event and every experience here is built on. To the crews who reset rooms in record time, who keep the building running at all hours, who take pride in work behind the scenes — thank you. You are, quite literally, what makes the Atlantic Union Bank Convention Center work.
